UNDER 16 LEAGUE DIV 1

SCHOOLBOYS
SUN NOV 30 ARDRATH PARK
UNDER 16 LEAGUE DIV 1.
YOUGHAL UNITED 1 – 2 RINGMAHON RANGERS.
  CALUM  PHELAN
A dissappointing result for the lads who were playing their first game since the departure of coach Jamie Lawton.  United played very well in the first half but once again they lacked the finishing touches up front. David Hurley had probably the best chance for united when his shot was just wide.  Ringmahon did not trouble the united keeper David Cashman too much in that half but that changed in the second when he made some fine saves. Ringmahon who upped their game took the lead early in the second half and kept the pressure up on united who were not playing as good as the first. Alan keniry was unluckey not to get his header on target which was one of united’s best chance. Shortly afterwards a superb cross found Calum Phelan and his effort shot past the stranded keeper. Youghal’s joy was short lived and three minutes later Cashman in the youghal goal could do little from a Ringmahon free kick which gave them the win. Hopefully a new manager can be found soon and coach these punch of lads back to winning ways.

U16 Boys Coaches Step Down

Friday, November 21st, 2008

The coaches of the U16 schoolboys team, Eugene Crotty and Jamie Lawton, step down as coaches of the under 16 team on Thursday night, Nov. 20th, due to personal reasons.

Jamie, who is only 18, is sitting his leaving cert, and has done an outstanding job with the team for a person so young. His knowledge of the game and his coaching was outstanding and his departure will leave a void in the team.

The club would like to thank both coaches for the time they put into the squad and wishes them the best and would like to wish jamie the best of luck when he sits his leaving cert next June.

The club are inviting any person wishing to coach the team to contact the club or any committee member as it is vital to keep this team together.

CORK  SCHOOLBOYS UNDER 16 LEAGUE DIV. 1. LAKEWOOD PARK MON. OCT 27TH
LAKEWOOD  ATH.     2.      YOUGHAL UNITED.     1.
                                               ALLEN KENIRY
A deserved win in this game for the home side but they were pushed all the way by united who never gave up despite having to enjure a lot of presure. The opening period of the game was tight enough but lakewood began to get a hold of the game and took the lead midway through the half . Youghal had to thank David Cashman in goal for keeping the score at 1-0 with a couple of good saves. United had a few chances to level things the best of them was when allen keniry hit the post with his shot but with 7 mins left to half time he had better luck when put through he slotted the ball past the out rushing keeper.
Lakewood were on top for the early part of the second half and united were not playing as they were in the first despite this they were keeping lakewood out. The home side did get the break through in the 55 minute when united failed to clear a cross and this turned out to be the winning goal for the home side. David Cashman had another great game and once again in the second half was on top form with a couple of fine saves. Disappointed with the defeat coach Jamie Lawton will still be able to take some positives out of the game.
United are back in action in the league when they are home on Sunday morning at Ardrath park with a 10.30 start when they host Rockmount.

Inishvilla 1 – 2 Youghal United

The boys got their league season off to the best possible start picking up all three points with a battling display in windy conditions. United settled well and took an early lead when after seven minutes a long clearance by keeper David Cashman found Alan keniry who headed over the keeper. United inspired from this were well on top for the first fifteen minutes – Villa got back into the game with 20 mins gone from what looked like an offside goal. However, the lads knuckled done and took the lead again 5 mins later when after a spectacular shot from the half way line with the wind behind him Owen Keniry’s shot  went over the stranded keeper. Youghal’s keeper David Cashman kept the score at 2-1 at the break when he made a great save.

It was a great team effort but the defence has to take the credit in the second half as Villa pushed forward and with the wind helping them they had a lot of the ball but the united defense held firm. Villa thought they had gotten back into the game when they looked to have scored but to their dismay the referee gave a goal kick which even surprised the travelling squad. As the game entered its final moments Villa once again thought they were back in the game but an outstanding save from Cashman in the Youghal goal rescued Youghal again. This result should spur on the lads and give them confidence as recent results in friendlies have not been good.

NATIONAL CUP  UNDER 16 ARDRATH PARK SUN SEP 21ST
YOUGHAL UNITED 1  BRIDEVIEW 3
United never got going in this game and  it was the visitors who were the better team from the start. The homeside were luckey not to go behind a few times and had to thank stand in keeper Corey Savage who made two super saves but could not do much when eventally Brideview did take the lead on the half  hour and kept it to the break.
The second half was not much different for Youghal with Brideview still bossing the game and two goals in seven minutes put the game out of United’s reach. The boys did get a late goal to put a bit of respect on the scoreline but on the day Brideview were well worth the win leaving the home side with a lot to think about after this defeat.

Under 12 National Cup.
The game between youghal and clonakilty was postponed as the visitors were unable to field a team.

U16 Boys — Friendly Result

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Report: Gene Crotty

Youghal United 2 – 3 Ballenroad

It was a disappointing result for United in this game when it looked like they were going to win this friendly but a couple of mistakes were to cost dearly.

United fell behind early in the game but were soon back on level terms when Owen Keniry scored. United took the lead 10 minutes into the second half when Allen Keniry put Youghal 2-1 ahead and at that stage United seemed to have the game in control,  but two late goals from mistakes gave the visitors the win.

United have their first league outing on Saturday, September 6th when they travel to play Lakewood in Ovens with a 10.30 kick-off.

U16 Schoolboy Update

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Report: Gene Crotty

Youghal United U16s played their second friendly in the build up to the new season when they travelled to Cobh to play Springfield.

Though United lost out in this game to the home side 2-0, this was a much improved performance from the team.

Despite the hot conditions, it was a was a very confident first half display from United, who made severial  changes in this game from the starting line up against Leeside.

Springfield came more into the game in the second half and two late golas gave them the vvictory which was a bit harsh on United.

United are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they play at home to Abbeyside of Dungarvan. K-off is at 3pm.

The first league game is on Saturday, September 6th when they travel to lakewood for a 10.30 kick-off.
