Intermediate Cup 2nd Round.
Ringmahon Rangers 2 – Youghal United 2 AET
Ringmahon Rangers win 5-4 on penalties.
Youghal found themselves behind early on in this contest with an effort that surprised everyone including the home side. Ringmahon broke down the left wing and the striker fired home from the edge of the box with an opportunist effort. It was a blow to the lads but to their credit they battled on. Mossie Clohesy was dangerous in every attack causing the defence problems. At the other end David Kearns kept Youghal in the game with a superb save. Five minutes later the game could have been put beyond Youghal when Ringmahon hit the crossbar from a corner kick.
Mossie again was very unlucky when he turned the defence inside the box abd got his shot in only to see the keeper parry it away to safety. Shortly afterwards Darren Hennessey followed up with an effort that was narrowly wide. The breakthrough came minutes from half time when a combination of Mossie Clohesy and Michael John Hennessey’s pressure on the home sides defence resulted in Mossie poking the ball home to everyone’s delight.
Half time 1-1 and Youghal well on top at this stage.
Playing against the wind in the second half Youghal continued their pressure and with a Michael J Hennessey corner finding Paul o’Driscoll at the back post only for him to head over. This turned into an evenly faught battle with both sides giving everything. Ringmahon took the lead again inside 25 mins when a corner kick was fired into the box and their centre half headed home unchallenged. It was very disappointing but the lads rallied and equalised from the kickoff in good style. Mossie Clohesy caught everyone with a back heel to find Michael John Hennessey rushing into the box and hammer the ball home. Both sides could have stole it at the death when Paul o’ Driscoll headed just wide and Ringmahon had the ball in the net only to be judged offside.
Extra time was played in a cautious manner as any mistake would cost dearly.
The games finished 2-2 AET and Youghal lost 5-4 after a penalty shoot out. This was a fine performance by Youghal United and just proves that they should be competing in Division 1. Ringmahon play in this division and are one of the top sides in it – it goes to show we can compete at this level. Well done to all involved.

JUNIORS
MUNSTER JUNIOR LEAGUE DIV. 1. SUN. NOV. 2ND ARDRATH PARK
YOUGHAL; UNITED. 1. COBH WANDERES. 1.
Another game in which united will feel they missed the chance of picking up full points in this game which they dominated for long periods. In a first half which saw not many chances for either side united could have gone in front a couple of times when Stephan Frazer twice went close with two good chances one of which hit the post.
Wanderers never looked like scoring and keeper Peter Geary did not have much to do except for a few saves which he dealt with in fine fashion. The break through came for united in the 66 minute when Gary Daly was on hand to knock the ball past the keeper from a cross on the left wing. This looked like the winner for Youghal but five minutes from time Cobh broke through and Peter Geary in the Youghal goal had little chance with the shot. This was another disappointing result for united as they dropped two more important points late on.

UNDER 13 NATSIONAL CUP BANDON SAT. NOV. 8TH
BANDON 4 YOUGHAL UNITED 3
This was a top class cup tie and both teams must be given credit for the effort they put into the game considering the weather conditions. Playing against the wind it was Youghal who got off to the better start and found themselves two goals up early in the game from an o’Neill and o’Sullivan goals. Bandon hit back but united went 3-1 up shortly after that but once again Bandon got themselves back into the game just before half time Youghal looked very confident with the wind at their backs in the second half but it was Bandon who turned out to be the better team and two goals in the half was to give them the win. It was a very disappointing result for united and they will feel a bit down as this game was due to be played at Ardrath park last week but fell foul to the weather.

SCHOOLBOYS
Not a great weekend for the schoolboys teams as the under 12’s went down at home on Sunday to Crosshaven by 4 – 1 and were always fighting an uphill battle in this game.
The under 14’s fared little better when they travelled to Inishvilla on Sunday and came away with a 6-0 defeat which was very disappointing for them
and to round of the misery a very under strength under 16 team were on the wrong side of a 10-2 defeat to Rockmount at Ardrath park on Sunday. United were missing six of their regulars due to sickness and injury and this was apparent in the result. The only highlight for Youghal in the game was the free goal scoring on Allen Keniry who scored the two goals and hit the post twice. A game united will want to forget in a hurry.
