YOUGHAL UNITED 6 – 0 UCC.
BARRY MC CARTHY

After two away draws to top opposition united were in full control of this game and were two goals up in the first six minutes when first a Nigel Roche shot was deflected into his own goal by a UCC player after three minutes and Barry Mc Carthy made it 2 three minutes later. UCC got back into the game for a spell as united sat back but for all the students pressure it came to nothing.
The game was pretty much over as a contest when Nigel Roche got the 3rd just before the break and united were looking very good at that stage. It did not take united long to increase the lead and after a good move Andrew Hennessey was on hand to make it four.  Barry Colman hit the fifth with a fine free kick and Hennnessey rounded it off with the sixth. A poor UCC side but united did what they had to do and will feel very happy with the game and they are now undefeated in 7 games and the confidence is growing and getting better with every game.

Another outstanding display from united who just cant stop scoring goals and won this game in easy fashion as the score line suggests.  United got off to a fine start when Alan Hennessey headed them ahead after ten minutes. Shortly after that Brendan o Sullivan made it 2 – 0. Bandon however did get back into the game when they scored not long before the break.
The second half was all united who never looked like loosing this game and goals from Pual Moylan with two Brendan o Sullivan and Sean Kenneally wrapped up a very convincing win to keep united on the l heels of the leaders Fermoy.

COLLEAGE CORINTHIANS 1 – 1 YOUGHAL UNITED.
                                                             ANDREW HENNESSEY
Once again United had to settle for a share of the spoils against the joint league leaders and with this fine diplay they must be a bit unhappy not to have taken all three points.
It was united  who got into the game the better but mid way through the first half from a corner colleage took the lead when united failed to clear the ball. United presssed forward and were unlucky twice before half time when Nigel Roche and Stephan Frazer’s efforts just went wide.
United kept the pressure up in the second half and Peter Geary in the Youghal goal had to deal with only one good effort from the home side who looked liked they were going to pick up the three points with the first half strike.  Seven minutes remaining and a fine run down the wing and a cross by Nigel Roche which was not cleared was vollied home by Andrew Hennessey to give Youghal the goal and in the end the point they deserved.

Sympathy.
The club would like to extend its sympahy to Pat Cooney and family on the death of his wife in recent times. Pat was a former FAS worked for the club and his son John also played for Youghal United in the past. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Cooney family at this time. RIP.

U16 Boys Coaches Step Down

Friday, November 21st, 2008

The coaches of the U16 schoolboys team, Eugene Crotty and Jamie Lawton, step down as coaches of the under 16 team on Thursday night, Nov. 20th, due to personal reasons.

Jamie, who is only 18, is sitting his leaving cert, and has done an outstanding job with the team for a person so young. His knowledge of the game and his coaching was outstanding and his departure will leave a void in the team.

The club would like to thank both coaches for the time they put into the squad and wishes them the best and would like to wish jamie the best of luck when he sits his leaving cert next June.

The club are inviting any person wishing to coach the team to contact the club or any committee member as it is vital to keep this team together.

Seniors

MSL DIV. 2.

C.I.T 0 – YOUGHAL UNITED 5.

Another comfortable win for united who were always in control of this game and if the game had gone its course it cold have been a bigger score line.

CIT should have taken the lead early in the game but David Kearns made a fine save from the in rushing forward. This gave Youghal the wake up call they needed and three goals in that first half saw united take control of the game. Youghal kept up the pressure and two more goals early in the second half was not surprising the way youghal were playing. The home side just had no answers to united and looked a very poor side. Sean Kenneally was about to score the 6th goal when the flood lights failed and the ref had no choice but to abandon the game. It would be surprising if united did not get all 3 points as they were so far ahead and well in control.

Juniors

MSL DIV. 1 EVERTON PARK SAT. NOV. 15TH

EVERTON  0 – YOUGHAL UNITED 0.

The points were shared in this game and both teams can be happy with that although both might feel they could have got all three. The first 15 minutes were even enough but Everton came more into the game and it took three very good saves from Peter Geary in the united goal to keep them in the game in that first half. Playing down hill in the second half united slowly got into the game and started to be the better team but just could not put the vital finish to the moves. As the half went on one goal would have done it but with both teams trying it never came and the game petered out to a scoreless draw.

SCHOOLBOYS

UNDER 14’s NATIONAL CUP SAT. NOV 15TH SKIBERREEN

SKIBEREEN 9 – YOUGHAL UNITED 4

Youghal came up against a very strong skibbereen  team as the result shows but  never gave up. Early goals from the home side were aided with a very strong wind and united were from that always fighting a uphill battle. Half time 5-1. United did score two early goals in the second half but a few mistakes were to cost them and skib went on to score four more to round off what has to be said a fine display from them.

Intermediate Cup 2nd Round.

Ringmahon Rangers 2 – Youghal United 2 AET

Ringmahon Rangers win 5-4 on penalties.

Youghal found themselves behind early on in this contest with an effort that surprised everyone including the home side. Ringmahon broke down the left wing and the striker fired home from the edge of the box with an opportunist effort. It was a blow to the lads but to their credit they battled on. Mossie Clohesy was dangerous in every attack causing the defence problems. At the other end David Kearns kept Youghal in the game with a superb save. Five minutes later the game could have been put beyond Youghal when Ringmahon hit the crossbar from a corner kick.

Mossie again was very unlucky when he turned the defence inside the box abd got his shot in only to see the keeper parry it away to safety. Shortly afterwards Darren Hennessey followed up with an effort that was narrowly wide. The breakthrough came minutes from half time when a combination of Mossie Clohesy and Michael John Hennessey’s pressure on the home sides defence resulted in Mossie poking the ball home to everyone’s delight.

Half time 1-1 and Youghal well on top at this stage.

Playing against the wind in the second half Youghal continued their pressure and with a Michael J Hennessey corner finding Paul o’Driscoll at the back post only for him to head over. This turned into an evenly faught battle with both sides giving everything. Ringmahon took the lead again inside 25 mins when a corner kick was fired into the box and their centre half headed home unchallenged. It was very disappointing but the lads rallied and equalised from the kickoff in good style. Mossie Clohesy caught everyone with a back heel to find Michael John Hennessey rushing into the box and hammer the ball home. Both sides could have stole it at the death when Paul o’ Driscoll headed just wide and Ringmahon had the ball in the net only to be judged offside.

Extra time was played in a cautious manner as any mistake would cost dearly.

The games finished 2-2 AET and Youghal lost 5-4 after a penalty shoot out. This was a fine performance by Youghal United and just proves that they should be competing in Division 1. Ringmahon play in this division and are one of the top sides in it – it goes to show we can compete at this level. Well done to all involved.

JUNIORS

MUNSTER JUNIOR  LEAGUE DIV. 1.  SUN. NOV. 2ND ARDRATH PARK

YOUGHAL;  UNITED.     1.     COBH WANDERES.     1.

Another game in which united will feel they missed the chance of picking up full points in this game which they dominated for long periods. In a first half which saw not many chances for either side united could have gone in front a couple of times when Stephan Frazer twice went close with two good chances one of which hit the post.

Wanderers never looked like scoring and keeper Peter Geary did not have much to do except for a few saves which he dealt with in fine fashion. The break through came for united in the 66 minute when Gary Daly was on hand to knock the ball past the keeper from a cross on the left wing. This looked like the winner for Youghal but five minutes from time Cobh broke through and Peter Geary in the Youghal goal had little chance with the shot. This was another disappointing result for united as they dropped two more important points late on.

UNDER 13 NATSIONAL CUP BANDON SAT. NOV. 8TH

BANDON      4      YOUGHAL UNITED     3

This was a top class cup tie and both teams must be given credit for the effort they put into the game considering the weather conditions. Playing against the wind it  was Youghal who got off to the better start and found themselves two goals up early in the game from an o’Neill and o’Sullivan goals. Bandon hit back but united went 3-1 up shortly after that but once again Bandon got themselves back into the game just before half time Youghal looked very confident with the wind at their backs in the second half but it was Bandon who turned out to be the better team and two goals in the half was to give them the win. It was a very disappointing result for united and they will feel a bit down as this game was due to be played at Ardrath park last week but fell foul to the weather.

Report:Gene Crotty.

SCHOOLBOYS

Not a great weekend for  the schoolboys teams as the under 12’s went down at home on Sunday to Crosshaven by 4 – 1 and were always fighting an uphill battle in this game.

The under 14’s fared little better when they travelled to Inishvilla on Sunday and came away with a 6-0 defeat which was very disappointing for them

and to round of the misery a very under strength under 16 team were on the wrong side of a 10-2 defeat to Rockmount at Ardrath park on Sunday. United were missing six of their regulars due to sickness and injury and this was apparent in the result. The only highlight for Youghal in the game was the free goal scoring on Allen Keniry who scored the two goals and hit the post twice. A game united will want to forget in a hurry.
